Bloodline
Netflix TV Series Review: "Bloodline". Just finished binging 3 seasons (33 episodes) for this show. Critics rated it a 59% with the users giving it an 88% and an IMDb rating of 8.1/10.
"Bloodline" is a dramatic thriller that explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a contemporary American family. The Rayburns are hard-working pillars of their Florida Keys community, but their past contains dark secrets that they hope remain buried. Paranoia and mistrust build as lies pile up, alliances are shattered, and an unthinkable crime takes place. The tight-knit family's formerly harmonious relationship deteriorates, and good people are forced to consider doing very bad things.
Bloodline is a Netflix original thriller-drama series created by Todd Kessler, Glen Kessler and Daniel Zelman, and produced by Sony Pictures Television. The first season 13-episodes premiered in its entirety, on Netflix, on March 20, 2015. On March 31, 2015, Bloodline was renewed for a 10-episode second season that debuted on May 27, 2016. On July 13, 2016, Netflix renewed Bloodline for a 10-episode third season, later confirmed to be the final season. The third and final season was released on May 26, 2017.
The ratings above are an overall for the show, however the first season received positive reviews from many critics, with most critics praising its performances (particularly for Ben Mendelsohn and Kyle Chandler and cinematography. However, the second season received a mixed response from critics, and the third season received not so good reviews.
The one thing almost everyone can say about Bloodline, love it or hate it, is that it was full of great performances. From Kyle Chandler in the lead role of John Rayburn, the tortured good son of the Rayburn clan who slowly found himself slipping into the moral muck, to Sissy Spacek as his mom, who basically got nothing to do in the first two seasons but has some very good scenes in season three, every single actor in the series was perfectly cast. This extends to the series’ breakout star, Ben Mendelsohn who plays John Rayburn's older brother. You will come to despise Danny for much of the first 2 seasons. He will drive you crazy with is outlandish scheming wiht his family. The scenes between Chandler and Mendelsohn were hypnotic to watch, even though they existed in a “good brother/bad brother, and which one is which?” dynamic as old as the Bible!!
You'll be pulled into this series and polarized to the relationships that come and go throughout the episodes. Some episodes are amazing and others are kind of soap opera'ish. I was glued to this series and spent every waking moment I had over the past 6 days to burn through the 33 one hour episodes. I have to agree with the critics though, seasons 1 & 2 were much better than season 3, however you will be entertained in season 3 and left with a dilemma to reconcile in your own mind at the end of the show.
