Cry Macho is a 2021 American neo-Western drama film directed and produced by Clint Eastwood. Adapted by Nick Schenk, it is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by N. Richard Nash. The film was theatrically released in the United States on September 17, 2021, by Warner Bros. Pictures with a simultaneous release on the HBO Max streaming service for 31 days. It received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for the scenery and score, but criticism towards the screenplay. Eastwood's performance and the film's tone received a polarized response.

First off let me say I have been a devoted Clint Eastwood fan since the age of 9 when the first series of the TV show “Rawhide” aired on TV in B&W (yes you heard right B&W….LOL). I’ve seen everything he’s ever been in or directed/produced. However I have to agree with the critics and users rating on this one. As I watched the film I was somewhat disappointed with the way the film was put together. The story was good and the intent was there, but for some reason it just didn’t come thru like a true Clint Eastwood film.

The pace was a little off and some of the scenes were chopped up and left you hanging. In some cases they just missed the mark! With all that said I still enjoyed watching this film and want to give it it’s just due.

You have to give consideration to a 91 year old who directed and took the lead role in this film. There were some noticeable limitations both in acting and directing, however it’s very much a heartfelt story from the real world of seniors.

I was fortunate to see this on HBO Max and if you’re a fan I recommend that you watch the film, ya just don’t know when his reign as director and actor will come to and end!

p.s. - Good news…….Clint left any political aspect out of this film and that’s a PLUS these days!
