Deerskin (French: Le Daim, lit. 'The deer') is a 2019 French comedy horror film written and directed by Quentin Dupieux. It stars Jean Dujardin and Adèle Haenel. It had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight section on 15 May 2019. It was released in France on 19 June 2019 by Diaphana Distribution.
Let me say right up front that along with this being a foreign film (all in French with subtitles), its one of the most bizarre comedy/horror films I’ve seen. With that said it’s also one of the most intriguing foreign films I’ve seen in a long time.
I came across this while perusing my Xfinity cable guide one night on HBO. This movie is not for everyone, but if you enjoy finding an outlandish film from time to time to keep an “outta-the-box” perspective on film making this film is for you!. It’s one of those films that either you like it or hate it, depending on your state of mind when you watch the movie.
I’ve found that French films are usually filled with Absurdism (intentionally ridiculous or bizarre behavior or character). This film is really not comedy, its more like just putting bizarre and often disconnected events into a film thereby provoking a reaction from the viewer.
It was a little bit difficult to stay with it to the end, however once I start something I will stick with it because I have seen that the absurd concepts have their place in the world and it can be a surprising experience to watch.
Got some time?…..looking for something DIFFERENT? Give it a try……you don’t have anything to loose other than you might go away thinking - What the hell did I just watch?!.
p.s. It showing on HBO and HULU - be sure and watch the trailer attached!
