Thirteen-year-old Kayla (Elisa Fisher) endures the tidal wave of contemporary suburban adolescence as she makes her way through the last week of middle school -- the end of her thus far disastrous eighth-grade year.

The film premiered on January 19, 2018 as part of the U.S. Dramatic Competition section of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. It was released in the United States on July 13, 2018.  The film received acclaim from critics, with praise for Burnham's script and direction and Fisher's performance.

This new coming-of-age movie falls somewhere between must-see and watch-between-your-fingers.  The former is because it’s that good and that authentic. The latter is because its reality makes it painful to watch the fears and insecurities of a 14-year-old, which is to re-live those moments of your own middle-school days.

As stated above this film is rated "R" and caused a big stir with adults (particularly parents) due to the nature of the personal sexual nature discussions that take place between the kids.  Thus the reason you might need to look thru your clenched fingers over your face.  Parents were trying to have the movie blocked from premiering.

On the other hand this is an excellent film for parents of adolescent children.  It will help you by watching the issues of the middle school children who are about to become high school kids.  You will relive your own experiences as you watch this, thus giving you insight to get ahead of some issues before they happen.

Wasn't sure what I was getting into before we went, however I'm very glad that I saw this film.  Get ready I'm sure we'll hear a lot about this from the news media!
