Movie 🎥 Review: “Greenland”

Critics gave it a 78% the users an 63%.

Rated: PG 13 with a 2 hr run time and an IMDb of 6.0/10.

Cast: Gerard Butler (who also produced), Morena Baccarin, Roger Dale Floyd, Scott Glenn, David Denman, and Hope Davis.

John Garrity, his estranged wife and their young son embark on a perilous journey to find sanctuary as a planet-killing comet hurtles toward Earth. Amid terrifying accounts of cities getting leveled, the Garrity's experience the best and worst in humanity. As the countdown to the global apocalypse approaches zero, their incredible trek culminates in a desperate and last-minute flight to a possible safe haven.

Greenland is a 2020 American disaster thriller film directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Chris Sparling. Originally scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States, Greenland was delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was released domestically by STXfilms, through video on demand on December 18, 2020, and then played on HBO Max and Amazon Prime. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed $52.3 million worldwide with a production budget of $35 million.

A sequel, Greenland: Migration, is in development, with Waugh, Butler, Baccarin and Floyd all returning.

I can see why some gave this bad reviews, however this film (although like others in the past) focuses on the interactions with desperate people in the light of global destruction and not particularly on the destruction itself. The film will definitely get your heart racing as it can be extremely intense at times.

As disaster flicks go this one was very different. Theres no downtime, lots of intense emotions and twists. CGI questionable at times (no biggie). All in all it’s worth a look!
