Overboard - 2018
Movie 🎥 Review: “Overboard”. Critics gave it a 32% the users a 96%.
Kate (Ann Farris) is a single, working-class mother of three who's hired to clean a luxury yacht that belongs to Leonardo (Eugenio Derbez), a selfish, spoiled and wealthy Mexican playboy. After unjustly firing Kate, Leonardo falls off the boat and wakes up with no memory of who he is. To get payback, Kate shows up at the hospital and convinces the confused amnesiac that they're married. As Leonardo tries to get used to manual labor and his new family, Kate starts to wonder how long she can keep fooling her fake husband.
This movie is a copy paste of the original Overboard from 1987 where the snobbish and wealthy Joanna Stayton (Goldie Hawn) is living a life of leisure with her husband, Grant (Edward Herrmann), when she falls off their yacht and suffers amnesia. Grant takes the opportunity to rid himself of the demanding Joanna but Dean (Kurt Russell), a widowed carpenter with four kids who once worked for Joanna, arrives and claims she's his wife. Joanna can't remember her past identity, but has trouble believing that she was ever meant to be a working-class mother of four.
If you liked the original you'll enjoy this copy paste version. They did an amazing job of reproducing the film while bringing it into the 21st Century. Seeing this for the second time you know exactly what happens but you do not know "how the scenes will play out". Its a hilariously well casted ensemble (Eva Longoria, Swoosie Kurtz, Emily Maddison & John Hannah -- just to name a few)
There were many laugh out-loud scenes for the packed theater we experienced tonight. Critics are quick to say this did not deserve a remake (as the rating shows), and I agree it's not a "perfect" movie, it was a good movie with the role reversal paying off to save the film. You may want to wait till it comes to On-Demand, Red Box or Netflix
p. s. be sure and watch the credits for the surprises at the end of the film.
