Sicario: Day of the Soldado
Movie 🎥 Review: “Sicario: Day of the Soldado”. Critics gave it a 65% the users an 66%. Rated: R.
Sicario: Day of the Soldado is an action thriller directed by Stefano Sollima. A sequel to 2015's Sicario, the film features Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Jeffery Donovan reprising their roles, with Isabela Moner, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Catherine Keener joining the cast.
The plot follows the drug war at the US-Mexico Border as it has escalated to the point where the cartels have begun transporting terrorists, forcing the United States government to team up with hitman Alejandro Gillick. The war escalates even further when Alejandro kidnaps a top kingpin's daughter to deliberately increase the tensions. When the young girl is seen as collateral damage, the two men will determine her fate as they question everything that they are fighting for.
This sequel is fairly solid, however lacks some of the special touches the original movie had. It highlights the dark side of the US and it's desire to control the cartels involvement with trafficking Sicarios (hit men) into the US.
The movie has heavy military action on shootings and bombings leaving a trail of dead bodies for an objective that seems futile.
I was glad I saw it and did enjoy the intensity this film brought to the big screen. It was very interesting to see how dark politics, combined with private mercenaries will stop at nothing to bring about war with the flip of a switch!
