Years later, Uhtred is a valiant warrior who is dealt another tragic blow when his home is deliberately set on fire, killing his surrogate family, including Ragnar. Now exiled -- alone except for Brida by his side -- he vows to avenge Ragnar's death and reclaim his homeland. But, he must choose between his birth country and the people who raised him. If he is going to help birth a new nation and ultimately recapture his ancestral land he must walk dangerous path between both sides.

The Last Kingdom is a British historical fiction television series based on Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories series of novels. The first series of eight episodes premiered on 10 October 2015 on BBC America, and on BBC Two in the UK on 22 October 2015. A second series of eight episodes was aired on BBC Two in the UK in March 2017, co-produced by Netflix after the exit of BBC America. Netflix was the sole producer of the third series of ten episodes, streamed from 19 November 2018. On 26 December 2018, Netflix renewed the show for a fourth series. On 19 March 2020, Netflix announced 26 April 2020 as the official series 4 release date.

There is a vast amount of mediocre historical series to watch. Each and every one that I watch I find myself comparing it to my all time favorite “Game of Thrones”. I had no idea what I was in for before I started binging this series. I can assure you this series is the closest to GoT’s that I have ever seen. I was completely hooked from the 1st season and binged right thru all 26 episodes in one sitting. The cast of endless characters was well done with excellent acting by all. Tons of battles, gore and everything you would imagine a medieval series would have.

The story lines were fascinating. It takes place in the 9th century and does an amazing job of depicting the harshness of living, and surviving, in a barbarous world, with an emerging, equally barbarous "new" religion. I was really impressed by the lead, Alexander Dreymon. He just gets better and better as the series progresses.

If your looking for an amazing medieval show (missing GoT’s) this is definitely for you. Cannot wait for the next season which by the way……season 4 is coming to Netflix on Sunday, April 26, 2020.
