A small unit of U.S. soldiers, alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating, located deep in the valley of three mountains in Afghanistan, battles an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack. The Battle of Kamdesh became the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghanistan War in 2009, and Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict.

The Outpost is a 2020 American war film directed by Rod Lurie, based on the 2012 non-fiction book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor by Jake Tapper, about the Battle of Kamdesh in the war in Afghanistan. The film was scheduled to premiere at the 2020 South by Southwest Film Festival, but the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was released via Premium VOD and in selected theaters on July 3, 2020. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for the battle sequences and respectful depiction of the soldiers.

This is one amazing true story war film. The story line takes you places that many war films don’t usually do. It’s well put together and will bring you right into each of these soldiers lives and interactions with their fellow soldiers throughout the film. I need to warn you now that this is one violent film with surprisingly intense battle scenes that are off the chart!.

This is a great movie with a few great things about it: (1) this was a movie based on true events, (2) the action scenes are exciting and provide an engaging visual felling & (3) there is no sugar coating, the actions depicted on the movie real and truthful.

I can honestly recommend this movie especially considering its based on true events. Its a grim reminder a time gone past from the stand point of the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom!

p.s. - be sure and watch to the very very end (past the closing credits). They provide you with some moving & interesting testimonials with followup on those that lost their lives!
