Marlo is a New York suburbanite who's about to give birth to her third child. Her husband, Ron, is loving and works hard, but remains clueless about the demands that motherhood puts on his wife. When the baby is born, Marlo's wealthy brother hires a nighttime nanny named Tully to help his sister handle the workload. Hesitant at first, Marlo soon learns to appreciate all that Tully does forming a special bond with her new, lifesaving friend.

The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was released in the United States on May 4, 2018, by Focus Features. It received mostly positive reviews from critics, praising Theron and Davis's performances and the film's portrayal of parenthood.

Marlo (Charlize Theron), a relatable mother of two children, is pregnant with an unplanned third child. Jonah, her son, has a developmental disorder that doctors have been unable to diagnose; she uses the â€śWilbarger Protocal” to brush his skin in an attempt to reduce his sensitivity. When Marlo and her husband Drew visit her wealthy brother Craig’s house for dinner, he offers to pay for a night nanny as a baby shower gift, but Marlo rejects his offer in an abrupt manner. This is where the movie takes a big turn.
