Unfaithful is a 2002 American thriller drama film directed and produced by Adrian Lyne. It was adapted by Alvin Sargent and William Broyles Jr. from the 1969 French film The Unfaithful Wife.
The film grossed $52 million in North America and $119,137,784 worldwide. Despite mixed reviews overall, Lane received much praise for her performance. She won awards for Best Actress from the National Society of Film Critics and New York Film Critics, and was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Actress.
If you were to read the reviews, several people seem to think of this film as basically "softcore porn for housewives". I can see where they would make that comment, however even thought it’s not the the most original film/script, me personally I believe they have missed the point.
To me it’s not only about marital infidelity, but, rather all about the drama, or “Drama As Art”. In actuality the plot is less important than the impact that the various plot points have on the characters, creating more and more and more drama as the story unfolds. And in this respect, 'Unfaithful' excels!
Watch carefully as the world slowly turns itself upside down and rips itself to shreds around these two people based on a single moment in time. Also based on her choice, the drama begins to build to a point when, at the end of the film, the DRAMA is the star. It will surprising / frustrating leaving you to decide how you think this drama plays out!
