Wild Wild Country
Netflix Users (binging again): Just finished "Wild Wild Country" that came out 3/16/28. The Critics gave it a 100% and the users an 86%.
Wild Wild Country is the story of Rajneeshpuram, a commune established in rural Oregon in the 1980s by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Over six episodes, filmmakers Chapman Way and Maclain Way interview Rajneesh's followers, law enforcement officials, and residents of the tiny town of Antelope, Oregon right next to where this began. By most accounts, the story of the sannyasins (Rajneesh's followers) sounds like any '80s cult, but as the story unfolds it includes immigration fraud, criminal prosecution, and a sprinkling of biological warfare.
When a controversial guru builds a utopian city in the Oregon desert, it causes a massive conflict with local ranchers. This docuseries chronicles the conflict, which leads to the first bioterror attack in the United States and a massive case of illegal wiretapping. It is a pivotal, but largely forgotten, time in American cultural history that tested the country's tolerance for the separation of church and state.
I binged straight thru the 6 episodes because I couldn't wait to see how this turned out. It was an amazing series, one that every red blooded American should see. I promise you you'll be angry about the gall they had trying to maintain this commune in the US.......SCARY to say the least!!!
