Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.
Principal photography began in London in September 2017 with Singer as director. In December 2017, Singer was fired for absence and clashing with the cast and crew, and Dexter Fletcher was hired to complete the film. Singer eventually retained sole director credit as per DGA guidelines, while Fletcher received an executive producers credit. Filming concluded in January 2018.
Bohemian Rhapsody was released in the United Kingdom on 24 October 2018 and in the United States on 2 November 2018. The film received a mixed critical reception; its direction, screenplay and historical inaccuracies were criticized, hence the 59% from the critics. However Malek's performance as Mercury received unanimous praise.
The Critics where wrong about the song in 1975, and they are wrong about the movie in 2018. This movie is a must see for any music and movie lover, Queen fan or no Queen fan. Anyone who sees this movie will be going through a rollercoaster of emotions whether its Queens music or the story behind the music, Rami Malek puts down an excellent version of Freddie Mercury. He will make you feel ALIVE during his performances. All the actors are great in this movie, just ignore the criticism and go see it for yourself.
If you can accept that the film is going to cherry-pick certain moments from the band's career and omit others, you'll get a perfectly-entertaining original rock biopic.
The climax is a phenomenal Hail Mary pass that wins the game.
