When the only daughter of a Boston homicide detective, Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson), is shot on his doorstep, everyone assumes that he was the intended target. Then evidence suggests otherwise, and Craven sets out to find her killer and, in the process, uncovers her secret life, corporate coverups, government collusion, and murder.
Edge of Darkness is a 2010 British-American conspiracy political thriller film directed by Martin Campbell, written by William Monahan and Andrew Bovell, and starring Mel Gibson. It was based on the 1985 BBC television series of the same name, which was likewise directed by Campbell. This was Gibson's first screen lead since Signs (2002), and follows a detective investigating the murder of his activist daughter, while uncovering political conspiracies and cover-ups in the process.
This is not another "father goes on rampage to kill the guy that kidnapped/murdered his child." It's actually a very involved thriller that has several twists and turns around a conspiracy Gibson's daughter was involved in. Gibson actually does not go all gung-ho like Neeson did in the movie “Taken”; rather, he was very careful in his investigations. His performance was brilliant, as was Ray Winstone's, though I found myself wishing he had a bit more screen time.
I was pleasantly surprised with how well this movie was tied together and the pacing throughout the film. I was intensely interested right down to the very end. Even with the low critic and user ratings I found this movie to be really good and one that I would recommend you check out.
Its a 2010 production and I found it on HBO, however it’s on YouTube, Amazon Prime, Google Play, VUDU and iTunes.
