The Substance

I can honestly tell you I had no idea what I was about encounter in this over the top “Absolutely F***ING Insane film.

WARNING: although this is an extraordinary well directed movie (one you need to see to believe), this is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Audaciously gross, wickedly clever, and possibly Demi Moore’s finest hour
— Rotton Tomatoes

In my lifetime of watching thousands of movies starting when I was 13 to today at the age of 74, I can't remember one that struck me like this film.

Immediately after the film was over may people were talking to others about WTF they just watch.

As I mentioned at the top of this review if you are squeamish, sensitive, or easily triggered by dark comedies, you may want to rethink seeing this film. However if you are NONE of the above, get out and see it as soon as you can. Don’t let this one get away from you and don’t read up on it that would spoil the film. People all over are talking about it.

The acting is amazing. Demi Moore definitely giving her best performance yet. Cinematography and sounds/music are spot on. it definitely brings you right into the film in ways you’ve not seen in other films.

I highly recommend you see this and be prepared to have the images burned into you mind for some time to come.
