Smokin' Aces is a 2006 action thriller film written and directed by Joe Carnahan. The film centers on the chase for Las Vegas magician turned mafia informant Robert 'Buddy Aces' Israel (Jeremy Piven), on whom a one-million-dollar bounty is placed.
This film was the official acting debut of Keys and Common. The film is set in Lake Tahoe and was mainly filmed at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, called the "Nomad Casino". It received generally mixed reviews, and grossed $57 million at the box office.
To coin a phrase “Shoot’em Up Bang Bang” would be a gross understatement when it comes to this movie. Considering this is a 2006 film I found it interesting and packed with a never ending flow of actors (reference the cast listing above). The film is a virtual cast “Clown Car” of big names in this film so the acting is great with the scenes leaving me laughing and intrigued. Oh and its a comedy, not to be taken seriously!
Given all that it is a thoroughly entertaining movie. The plot is around 5 different flavors of assassins and hit men competing for a $1m contract on an FBI informer, a definite recipe for carnage - and carnage you will get. Big twist in the ending, but i wont go into detail as it will spoil the overall plot.
If you are fan of this kind of movie, you’re gonna love this one! Ignore the Critics reviews above.
