Joan and Joe complete each other after nearly 40 years of marriage. Where Joe is casual, Joan is elegant. Where Joe is vain, Joan is self-effacing. And where Joe enjoys his very public role as the great American novelist, Joan pours her considerable intellect, grace, charm and diplomacy into the private role of a great man's wife. As Joe is about to be awarded the Nobel Prize for his acclaimed and prolific body of work, Joan starts to think about the shared compromises, secrets and betrayals.

The Wife premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2017, and was theatrically released in the United States on August 17, 2018 by Sony Pictures Classics. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with Close's performance garnering widespread critical acclaim; she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actress (tying with Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born), and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance, and is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress and BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

The Wife could be described as several films in one (1) another midlife self-discovery film (2) a feminist essay about being true to oneself in a story of fabricated prestige in the literary world (3) a tale of arrogant deceit that holds a marriage together. Truth be known this film blends all of these into a tense drama powered by the extraordinary acting power of the duo Glen Close and Jonathan Price.

The acting is sensational from everyone, especially the two leads, however I don’t think that Jonathan Pryce is getting enough credit for his performance. Glenn Close gives a heartbreaking Oscar-worthy portrayal. I see now what the Oscar buzz along with that awards she has already won and nominated for is all about.

Without wanting to give too much away, there is a twist which could've seemed far-fetched were it not so well-handled. This film is a clever, emotionally draining watch that'll stay with you long afterwards.

I was blown away at the quality of the storyline and acting. The Wife has officially began the Award Season race for Best Film of the Year. Don't miss it!
