Vice was released in the United States on December 25, 2018, by Annapurna Pictures. The film divided critics; some lauded it as "cleverly biting" while others denounced it as "a clumsy display of political hatred," with McKay's script and direction receiving both "scathing critiques and celebratory praise". Despite the polarized reception for the film itself, the performances, particularly of Bale and Adams, received universal praise. The film received numerous award nominations, including a leading six at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, with Bale winning for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and six at the 72nd British Academy Film Awards in categories including Best Actor (Bale) and Best Supporting Actress (Adams).
For me this is one of the best films I've seen this year. Its a documentary/drama/comedy that tells the story of Cheney's political career while skewering the Republican Party & Washington DC politics in general, from the Nixon administration to today. It brings to light how politicians will sell-out everything in the pursuit for power, just how much sway one person can hold in politics, how media was forever changed under the Bush administration, & how all of this is still effecting us today.
It's a film that has as many laughs as it does moments of bitter truth, many of them bleeding into each other. Again putting his body through a drastic change for a role, Christian Bale is absolutely incredible as Dick Cheney with his mannerism & glare down perfectly. I'm just as impressed with Amy Adams, Steve Carell, & Sam Rockwell. The editing is fantastic & the narrator was an interesting touch, especially once it's revealed who he is in relation to Cheney. And the mid-credits scene perfectly expresses what the reactions to this film will be.
Absolutely enjoyed every minute of this film. I hung everything that was said and done…….very interesting film. FYI be sure and stay till after the second set of credits to see the surprise at the end. Don’t let this get by without seeing it no matter what political affiliation you are!
