The film is the shocking true story of the investigation and trial of Dr Kermit Gosnell and his 30 year killing spree and the political and media establishment that tried to cover it up. Who can the investigators really trust when a routine drugs investigation uncovers a scandal that goes all the way to the top.
The film was announced in 2014. Funds for its production were raised via crowdfunding, in which $2.4 million was raised for the creation of the film. The film was made by Irish filmmakers Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer and directed by Nick Searcy. After difficulties finding a distributor willing to carry the film and a lawsuit by a judge who objected to his portrayal in the film, the producers signed a distribution deal with GVN Releasing, which opened the film in as many as 750 theaters on October 12, 2018.
Went to see this movie thinking it was a sort of anti-abortion docudrama. But instead it was an excellently made crime & courtroom movie performed by a cast of veteran actors. It was engrossing, intense, extremely powerful and yet heartwarming, the kind of movie that arouses every emotion and leaves you with the realization that rarely have you been so enlightened and enriched by a movie.
This is a must-see film, one that not only provides immediate reward, but the kind that stays with you for a long, long time. Superb acting, directing and story - a rare diamond in the rough - note the users 99% rating!!
HEADS UP: this movie is about a very controversial topic and you will have to keep an open mind to get through it.
