The Handmaid's Tale has won many awards over the past years; Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama; Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series - Drama; Writers Guild of America Award for Television: New Series and Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, just to name a few.

This series is set in Gilead, a totalitarian, theonomic government that establishes rule in the former United States during aftermath of a millennium age civil war.  It is ruled by a fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state, and is faced with environmental disasters and a plummeting birth rate. In layman's terms its 180 degrees from our society today.

In a desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world, the few remaining fertile women are forced into sexual servitude. One of these women, Offred (played by Elisabenh Moss) is determined to survive the terrifying world she lives in, and find the daughter and husband that were taken from her.

For many this could be a very difficult series to watch.  What happens and how the women are treated can be appalling and difficult to experience.  It truly goes against everything we as a society believe in.
