The Little Things is a 2021 American neo-noir crime thriller film written and directed by John Lee Hancock and produced by Hancock and Mark Johnson. The film was released in the United States on January 29, 2021 by Warner Bros. Pictures, both theatrically and, for one month, simultaneously on the HBO Max streaming service. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances, direction, and atmosphere but noted the film as familiar and criticized the screenplay, with some comparing it unfavorably to the 1995 film Seven. For his performance, Leto received Best Supporting Actor nominations at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Movie goers are generally used to gun fights and car chases when it comes to detective stories, especially in movies. However this film takes a deep dive into the frustrations of how real police work can be. The fumbling around in the dark, chasing your tails, being obstructed by the very law you swear to uphold. The real question the movie poses is how far are you willing to go in order to catch a killer?.
It’s packed with suspense that builds big time toward the end of the film. I can see why it got the ratings, however I did enjoy the film and wasn’t sorry I watched it at all.
